Concept
Within my practice, I explore the potential of CAD, haptics and rapid prototyping processes to create entirely new forms based on nature; subverting a process that is fundamentally mathematical and geometric to create objects that appear to be completely organic.
In the .stl format, 3D forms are structurally based on a mesh of triangles that are mathematically defined by algorithms. I control the degree of deformation by modifying the resolution of the mesh (number of triangles). Through this process, I reflect on the integration of the construction of the interior and exterior: and the unique opportunities offered by the haptic interface in the final object.
I also aim to create jewellery that appears to be unbearable/ painful to wear, but is seductively beautiful all the same, examining the concept of jewellery as a parasite on the human form- an alien growth on the body.
